The Outsiders takes us back to the roots and ethos of what Steve Lazarides set up back in 2006 with his first gallery; a space catering for art enthusiasts at all levels. Due to an ever-growing demand in Lazarides Editions, the popularity in the innovative artists Lazarides has worked with and a desire to give exposure to unknown artists, it was time to take the Lazarides philosophy to the next level by merging these collected ventures.
The Dungeon in the basement at Greek Street has become a breeding ground for a cutting edge exhibitions. The versatility of the space provides a platform for emerging artists, giving them the opportunity to showcase their talent as well as offering the more established Lazarides represented artists the freedom to play and produce experimental shows. The Dungeon Gallery in 8 Greek Street's basement will effectively become a project space without limits.
The ground floor at Greek Street continues to expand upon the success of Lazarides' in-house editions workshop to produce exclusive small run editions, hand-finished prints, and works on paper at attractive prices. It will also continue to carry publications, quality artistic ephemera and limited edition collectables.
The Newcastle space will follow suit combining a shop at ground level with a project space in the basement called The Kitchen Gallery. The Outsiders.net will continue to be a focal point for all print releases from across the range of Lazarides artists as well as a slew of special guests.
BOOKS
We've been successfully creating, publishing and retailing our own limited edition signed books at Lazarides for many years now, something both we and the artists very much enjoy doing, as indeed do you, given that a good number of our editions are sold out. We'll continue to produce the quality artists books we always have, but with the advent of our new printing and crafting facilities in our Rathbone Place studio, we're seriously upping our game, and that of our artists in residence, by customising publications with screen printed covers, hand finished pages and other unique touches to add a special something to an already-great viewing and reading experience.
ORIGINALS
The Outsiders offers a fantastic, diverse and affordable range of original sketches, studies, drawings and other works of art, as well as the odd unique piece of sculpture, collage and photography. And not only is each and every one truly a one-off creation, you'll find they're also rather keenly priced, often way below those of the gallery pieces offered by the very same artists, but without compromising the quality of their art one bit.
PRINTS
Artists are constantly hard at work on the Rathbone printing press, creating a cornucopia of limited edition, hand-pulled screen prints, all under the watchful eye of our Master printer. It's great to see how much they enjoy being completely involved in the whole process of crafting print, creating beautiful works which they can sign off with pride, with most all choosing to further their art, and indeed your pleasure, by embellishing editions as an inexpensive alternative to their original works.
