INVADER: ALL YOUR POST-INDUSTRIAL DECAY ARE BELONG TO HIM

Wednesday 15th of May 2013

In east London no-one can you hear you scream. So an advance force of alien starships led by street artist Invader encountered minimal resistance touching down there earlier this week.

His beachead established, Invader put up a mural of your two favourite 70s sci-fi characters engaged in their eternal lightsabre duel. The galactic-level street artist's trademark arcade game-inspired aliens also impacted: but witness reports claim they were disappointed to find the local's brains seemingly already eaten. Invader himself stopped raining down hot hail from his orbiting mothership to take the photos.

SAGE VAUGHN AND MICHAEL MULLER | KINGDOM EXHIBITION PREVIEW

Friday 10th of May 2013

Thanks to everyone who made it down to The Outsiders Newcastle for last night's preview of Sage Vaughn and Michael Muller's Kingdom exhibition. Both of the artists attended the event (Mike Muller flew all the way over from Los Angeles yesterday and headed back across the Atlantic at 6am this morning!) and despite understanding little or nothing of the Geordie accent, hugely enjoyed the warm welcome they received from the locals.

The exhibition is now open to the public at The Outsiders Newcastle from 12 til 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday until the 15th of June.

DOZE GREEN | LUMINOUS B | NEW PRINT EDITION ON SALE TODAY

Thursday 9th of May 2013

If there's an LSD revival going on, then The Outsiders will be there. In which case, our print release this week is a psychedelic odyssey by NYC graffiti mainstay, Doze Green.

Luminous B features a sagacious dreamlike figure amongst spaced-out architectural forms in vivid primary colours. The enveloping deep hues in the background give a sense of timelessness and antiquity, a common theme of Doze's spaced-out work. He's noted for his work alongside other mind-expanding artists such as San Francisco's Mario Martinez aka MARS-1.

But Doze Green is not just interested in supercharging your synapses. A heavy influence is the art and materials of Edo period Japan. Moreover, the more "long in the tooth" amongst you may remember the Rocksteady Crew, a breakdancing outfit from the early 1980s who crossed over to mainstream consciousness. Doze Green was a member of said troupe and has even been known to throw down at his exhibition launches.

Here's a video of DG at work on Luminous B and other pieces.
